Big Bear: The First Overnight EOE Trip in Third Grade

05/20/26

Our Third Graders recently traveled to Big Bear for a very special Environmental Outdoor Education experience at Cedar Lake Camp. This trip is an important Seven Arrows milestone: it is the Third Graders’ first overnight field trip and the only overnight trip where parents attend alongside their children.

Surrounded by the beauty of the San Bernardino Mountains, students had the opportunity to build confidence, strengthen friendships, connect with nature, and experience their class community in a new and memorable setting. Throughout the trip, students participated in outdoor challenges, team-building activities, hiking, and reflective moments.

One of the highlights was the ropes course, where students practiced courage, perseverance, and trust as they stepped outside their comfort zones. Just as meaningful was the way classmates encouraged one another, celebrated each other’s efforts, and worked together through moments of challenge and excitement.

While students participated in their activities, parents also had the opportunity to take part in a meaningful workshop experience, making the trip a special shared adventure for families and students alike. In the evening, our community gathered around the campfire to roast marshmallows, share stories, and enjoy time together under the stars.

From the ropes course to the campfire, from quiet reflection to joyful adventure, the Big Bear trip was filled with laughter, growth, connection, and memories that our Third Graders will carry with them for years to come. Check out this reflection from one of our Third Grade students!
